Old Ebbitt Grill: A Washington, D.C. Dining Icon

Unbelievable!!!!! Excellent wine selection, very good appetizers (crab dip a big time YES)!! And now, the steak! DEAR LORD it was amazing! So tender and juicy, the potatoes were very uniquely served and SO TASTY! Would go here again in a heartbeat!!!

A staple to Washington DC and top tourist selection so make reservations. The establishment is very large with various rooms, bars and an atrium suitable for group gatherings. The rustic art scene is throughout. The service is top notch as well. You can't go wrong with the food is overall good and consistent. Standouts are the scallops, parm crusted trout, ruebon, calamari.

3.5 stars. I was grateful they were open late so we were able to get a bite late night after our concert. The server kept our water refilled and made entree recommendations. I got the fried chicken sandwich but it was kind of bland. I needed a bit of salt. But the fries were crispy and hot. Definitely did the job. Lots of tables so you can just walk in.

This was one of our favorite dining experiences while in DC! My husband and I went to quite a few of the online recommended establishments during our week long visit. By the end of our trip, we lowered our expectations because so many of the restaurants we visited were so underwhelming. Old Ebbitt Grill was the exception! Everything was excellent! The restaurant is beautiful, service was excellent, the food was delicious, the prices were reasonable. This is the one place we would definitely revisit the next time in town! We ordered Mussells - probably the best we've ever had! My husband ordered the crab cake - he said it was ALL crab and no filler. Also the best he's ever had! I ordered the Spicy Sausage Garganelli. I wished I hadn't eaten so much of the fresh, warm bread and butter because I could hardly eat half of the pasta! We also had a couple of the Zero Proof drinks. I wasn't crazy about the "Tea Totaler." The "Day at the Beach" was much more flavorful.

This is an absolute must do in DC! We stopped in for a very late dinner on a Friday night at Old Ebbit. Thank goodness it's open until 2am! We arrived at 10:30pm without a reservation but were lucky enough to get seated within about 5 minutes. It was absolutely packed. It is an absolute DC mainstay! It has all of the ambiance that you would expect from a restaurant that Abe Lincoln and DC legends dine at. I definitely recommend the crab cakes and blueberry dessert! The house salad is underwhelming so I'd skip it and try the Caesar.

Izzy!!!! We were a large party of 11 seated in the atrium. Izzy was our server and she was very attentive and responsive to our needs. Great food and service !

We sat in the Grant Room and BK was our waiter. We started with a peach bourbon sangria, which was wonderful. We shared a dozen assorted Potomac oysters, which were like silk. My husband enjoyed his huge crabcake and my meatloaf did not disappoint. Portions were very generous & prices were reasonable. This is Washington's wildest & most historic saloon from 1856. They have amassed a priceless amount of antiques & memorabilia. There is a huge main bar, an oyster bar & Grant's bar. Antique gas chandeliers surround the main dining room. The Ebbitt guest list read like a Who's Who of American History. President McKinley is said to have lived there during his tenure in Congress, and Presidents Ulysses S. Grant, Andrew Johnson, Grover Cleveland, Theodore Roosevelt and Warren Harding supposedly refreshed themselves at its stand-around bar.

Historic restaurant with great seafood. Favorite part was walking around to see all the memorabilia that has been preserved here. Be sure to read up about the history of the place before you go or while you're waiting for your food. Oysters Rockerfeller were delicious. Done right. Would get these every time I come. The salmon needed something more. The carrot ginger puree was superb but I found myself always eating the salmon with it to flavor up the fish. Service was great.

The oyster bar is outa sight. Historic ambiance, always lively. Great for meet ups. Great food and great service.

Classic, DC restaurant that's typically busy. Sat at the bar and the service was quick despite it being a busy Sunday night. Dirty martini and an oyster sampler (East Coast), great way to start off the night. Delicious. Couldn't decide between the steak frites or the salmon. Bartender suggested frites. It was ok. Cut of meat wasn't the best but it sufficed. Fries were good. Lady next to me had the salmon and said it was excellent. Oh well, next time.
